Communal gardens for this upmarket 8-home cluster

The Brief: To design and implement a the communal gardens for a cluster development in Bedfordview. To build a water feature inside the complex and a feature outside the main gates.

The Project: Involved leveling and laying topsoil and compost and removing quite a lot of building rubble which is typical when tackling a new complex. An 9-station eletronic irrigation system was installed. The irrigation system was particularly challenging as we had to lay conduits under the communal road in the complex. The budget did not allow for ellaborate planting and designs so simple clean lines were created. Flower beds were created insdie and outside the boundary walls and the beds were edged with 150mm x 150 mm cobbles. Two flower boxes were built outside the main gates and planted with lavendar and two display pots. Inside the bounadry walls a water feature was built complete with cladding, pumps and lights inside the water creating a magical effect at night.

The Plants: Plants used included:

  • Cocos / Queen Palm - Syagrus romanzoffiana
  • English Lavender - Lavandula angustifolia
  • Viburnum - Viburnum sinensis
  • Kikuyu grass
